Lando Norris has won a very dramatic season opener at Melbourne which saw 6 drivers crashing out of the race

It was not the start of the season Isack Hadjar was looking forward to as he crashed out at Turn 2 on the formation lap, causing an aborted start.

Not long after that a second rookie, this time Jack Doohan had crashed into the wall at Turn 5 causing the first Safety Car for the 2025 season.

Behind the resulting Safety Car, Carlos Sainz found the wall at the exit of Turn 14, which the Spanish driver said a torque surge was the cause of the problem

Kimi Antonelli spun on Lap 16 at Turn 4, however he avoided the wall and kept it going

Turn 17 saw Max Verstappen, a man who has become so reliable, go deep into Turn 11 , setting Oscar Piastri free to chase his teammate for the race win

The longest serving driver, Fernando Alonso had a big crash on Lap 34 at the exit of Turn 7

The track was then dry enough for slick tyres and the lap times started to get faster, however heavy rain was forecasted.

Once that rain had arrived, the two McLaren drivers ended up in the gravel at Turn 12, as there was no grip, allowing Max Verstappen to cruise by when both cars came back onto the track at Turn 13 and had even less grip, Lando Norris got away with the mistake, however, Oscar Piastri would spend the next half to three quarters of the lap trying to get out of the grass, in which he had spun into.

Lewis Hamilton led the race for the first time in a Ferrari car, as both Gabriel Bortoleto and Liam Lawson crash into the barriers, causing another Safety Car.

The gap in the end was 0.895 between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen.
